Karate Curriculum

Instructor Ed Johnson

The purpose of the coed Martial Arts (Karate) Class is to instill discipline, teach self-respect, and condition the body through exercise and training.  This course focuses on conditioning and good work ethics.  Finally, the goal is to learn to defend one’s self in any adverse situation.  The course instructor will arrange several Karate workshops throughout the year.  Regional competitions are voluntary for those students who are asked to participate.  For the more advance student, the instructor offers more individualized classes with a lower teacher to student ratio and the advance course emphasizes more difficult katas and technique.

Students will learn the following:

  • Varying stances of Karate
  • Single punches and combinations
  • Basic and complex kicks
  • Kata (many combinations of steps, turns, kicks and punches)
  • The course also teaches the appropriate response to the teacher (Sense’)
  • Karate Instructor, Ed Johnson, is a member of the Five-Finger Fist Society
  • Competitions may take place 1-2 times/year during regular class time

We are sure that students can apply this discipline to real life.

  • For beginner and intermediate levels

Starts at age 5 & up, Coed

Karate Tournaments

We participate in at least one Karate Tournament per year.  This encourages self-esteem in our students and application of self-defense instruction.
